Commutes 20 Miles RoundTrip for 1 years and 0 months
Five Days a week, I use my bike to travel to and from work Year Round

I commute from Meridian to Boise. The traffic is heavy and fast (40mph +) for most of the way. There is a big shoulder that is mostly clear of debris that I use most of the way in. If I maintain 24 mph I can hit almost all of the 13 lights on my way in on green. Other days I seem to have to wait for every one. I believe in the principles of vehicular cycling but I believe that taking the lane unneccesarily when there is a clean 3-5 foot shoulder and traffic is going 40 mph+ would actually be more dangerous to myself. I ride very close to the roadside edge of the shoulder and find that most cars give me plenty of room when they pass. If they don't, I keep the entire width of the shoulder for my own safety purposes.

Idaho has a unique law that basically allows cyclists to treat stop signs as yeild signs and stop lights as stop signs. Personally, I tend to wait out the lights with the drivers because I think most of them do not know the law and would be angry if I treated the light as a stop sign.
