70% bike path, 30% suburban streets in the northern VA, DC metro area. I prefer street riding to bike paths, but my commute is western DC 'burb to western 'DC burb where cyclists are less welcome than closer-in more urbanized communities. I can't imagine commuting here without the bike path - roads are too badly designed, extremely hazardous and local drivers are, um, challenging. I felt safer commuting in NYC metro area. |
| About_me |
Returned to dedicated bike commute this spring & hope to maintain through the winter. Only time will tell, but I think I'm prepared with NiteRider lighting system, Vista flasher on the rear rack, Illuminite Jacket & other assorted blinkies. Don't know if the motorists are prepared for me! |

Being a one car household certainly saves money and does wonders for the ol' bod. Workhorse commute machine is 20 year old Lotus Legend(Original components - amazing how long your equipment will last by consistent TLC & maintenace!) with Zefal city fenders, rack, etc.. Pannier user. Mine are old Perfomance garment bag style, but seeking cool Ortliebs when I feel I've earned 'em. |
